Wonder begins
where certainty ends.

That breath before the plunge. The tremor before the engine catches. Fear does not always mean turn back. Sometimes it means you have found the edge of everything you know.

The signal before the Cantos

The experiment
that became OPAL.

We have been looking to the stars.
Now the universe is watching.

LUMIN was Nik Kennedy's first published experiment in this universe. Its central story is being rebuilt, expanded, and transformed into OPAL—Book VI of The Gestalt Cantos. The original edition remains available as a record of where the signal began.

Canon status // LUMIN is the legacy prototype. OPAL will be the definitive Gestalt Cantos novel.

Portrait of author Nik Kennedy

Pacific Northwest

Nik Kennedy's notebooks, pencil, and pen

Survivor. Girl Dad. Stargazer. Wondering Wanderer. Human.

Writing humanity
against impossible odds.

Nik Kennedy is a tricuspid atresia survivor who has undergone five open-heart surgeries. Born with a serious congenital heart defect, he spent much of his childhood watching television, playing Super Nintendo, and writing his own stories. Robert A. Heinlein’s Starship Troopers sparked a lifelong passion for science fiction—and for stories of human survival against overwhelming odds.

After high school, Nik fought California wildfires in 2008 and spent several years traveling and working across the West Coast. He now lives in the Pacific Northwest with his family. After losing his father in 2024, he made a promise to turn a childhood spark into an expansive speculative universe exploring humanity’s place amid cosmic-scale horrors.

When he is not writing, Nik spends time with his family, practices photography, and looks up at the stars.
